Exreme Family Field Day Success!

Saturday was a wonderful day to support education at the Paulding Education Foundation Extreme Family Field Day sponsored by Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. Extreme Family Field Day Over 1,500 people came out to Taylor Farm Park in Powder Springs to participate in a 5K, Obstacle Challenge, perform on the MembersFirst Credit Union stage or enjoy the carnival rides and games. Almost $15,000 was raised to fund the grants and scholarships supported by Paulding Education Foundation. This event was organized and managed by the Advisory Council of the Paulding Education Foundation, chaired by Jim McMichen, who also serves as a trustee of the foundation.

The day started out with a 5K race weaving through the park Extreme Family Field Day with DJ Mark McCain kicking off the festivities and warmup led by Angie McCanham and Christian Anderson of We CAN Zumba. Winners of the the 5K include: Overall Men - Jonah Holbert 9:07; Women - Rebecca Mils 24:21. Under 20 Men - Bryan Grislon 22:24, Ethan Hunt 24:29, Brady Kiel 26:24; Women - Andrea Landrum; 29:3, Morgan Smith 30:26, Abbie Poythres 30:32. 20-35 Years Men - James Grahm, 28:00, Dustin Schularick 28:01, Stephen Stapleton 29:52; Women - Stephanie Grahm 27:53, Amanda Wright 28:46, Lameishn Williams 30:58. 36-50 Years Men - Paul Chafee 22:27, Marcus Walker 23:49, PJ Howard 24:20; Women Cindy Fosten 24:34, Tara Russell 24:39, Becky Horn 25:22. Over 50 Men - Kevin Embry 25:45, Paul Smith 27:14, Buddy S. 37:02; Women - Alicia Ward - 24:25, Marice Wills 25:31, Stephanie Daughtery 26:38.

Following the 5K and a short Kid Fun Run, the obstacle challenge Extreme Family Field Day was run in eleven heats. The 1/2 mile course was designed for 2nd grade a younger and the 1 mile course was designed for 3rd grade and older. Short Course Heat Winners: Emma Kosik 9:21; Olivia Bagner 9:20; Anthony Becraft 9:30; Laura Roberts 7:30. Long Course Heat Winners: Kimbrell Presleigh 13:06; Landon Jones 11:55; Morgan Smith12:12; Carissa Carson 12:40; Will Pearson 10:33; Sarah Taylor 11:58; Jarn McDonald 11:38.

Other major sponsors included Comcast, Greystone, Wellstar, Pirate Printing, Allstate-The Milton Agency, Insterstate Battery, West Metro Driving School, Carroll EMC, West Georgia Arts Conservatory and Chick Fil A.

The day featured performances and stage managed by West Georgia Arts Conservatory. Performers included Pup to Pak Chorus, McClure Middle School Jazz Band, Herschel Jones Middle School Chorus, Nebo Elementary School Chorus, Studio Dance, West Georgia Arts, Country Classic Cloggers, Zaina Allen Band and Studio 4 the Arts.

The event featured an engineer designed obstacle challenge with 1 6 stations including N oodle W ash, Tiresome Tire Mile, Mt. Kill-A-Man Hay Bale Mountain, Needless Net Crawl, Pipe Dreams Pipe crawl and others.

Mark Hufstetler led the team, ensuring the design and completion of all of the obstacles, with the construction completed by Tim Rogers, Georgia PE Teacher of the Year Dave Senecal from PB Ritch, Chad Curl, Jim McMichen, Ralph McMichen and Shaun Nguyen.

Troop 95 Pending Eagle Scout Chip Curl completed requirements for his Eagle Scout project through this event. Local elementary school art clubs from Russom and Burnt Hickory painted and designed inspiring messages. Many materials were donated by Brassfield & Gorre and Tommie Graham from Alpha Omega Stor All Self Storage provided storage and construction space for the obstacles.

Volunteers were staffed by East Paulding High School Air Force JROTC, Hiram Beta Club, South Paulding Beta Club, North Paulding Beta Club, McGarity teachers, Leadership Paulding, and many other community members.

Extreme Family Field Day The Paulding Education Foundation was started in 2006 with a mission to provide resources, both financial and human, that ensures total commitment to the exemplary performance of public education in Paulding County. We seek to enrich and expand learning opportunities for students by: Promoting an opportunity for the community to contribute to public education; Promoting innovative instruction through grants to our teachers and schools, and establishing a network among public, private and government partners for the benefit of public education in Paulding County.
